Colorado Sees Severe Spike In Covid Cases

Colorado cleared the record of 19 cases of COVID in one day, and more than 2,100 cases were reported on Sunday, October 25, as the coronavirus approached or exceeded the record for the entire state. Until last weekend, Colorado had not registered more than 1,267 new cases a day. Then came on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday because the state recorded 1,604, 1,594, and 2,102 cases in a row. These are also consistent with  the state's busiest three-day test since the pandemic began in March. While the increase in tests almost inevitably leads to an increase in the number of cases detected, the proportion of tests that return a positive, which is a reliable gauge in the direction of the pandemic, has also increased dramatically. The average positive rate for 7 days increased from 3.36 percent to 6.67 percent  in October alone. At the peak of April, when the test was underdeveloped but the virus was ubiquitous, more than 22% of the COVID 19 tests returned  positive results.

State case data expanded over the weekend with approximately 16,000 negative and positive test results from the Kaiser Center-- which had not been recorded since the beginning of the month due to a technical failure. However, these were distributed on the day the test was reported to Kaiser and should not have affected record case reports from the weekend. Additionally, Julie Lonborg of the Colorado Hospital Association said hospitals were concerned that there would not be enough specially trained staff as the intensive care unit continued to fill up (worsening the state of the pandemic and making it difficult for Colorado to recover).
