Fauci’s Promising News About the Future of COVID

Fauci says “It’s going to be within our capability” to prevent another coronavirus surge. Although COVID cases continue to climb, with approximately 85,000 new infections a day, it is becoming increasingly likely we can prevent another surge if more people get the vaccine.

Fauci predicts another surge in the near future, as numbers of diminishing cases have stalled, and resurgences have occurred at this stage in the past. However, gradually, herd immunity will increase and the impact of surges will not be as severe. As we’re learning more about the virus, and how it mutates, Fauci believes there will be more effective medical treatments, possibly in the form of pills or a new vaccine.

Progress is being continually threatened by low vaccination numbers. The vast majority of the population, according to Fauci, will need to be vaccinated to prevent another surge, even if many people have antibodies due to contracting the virus at an earlier date. It’s possible that many people who have already been double vaccinated will need a booster shot, so their body can fight against the newer variants of COVID.

Overall, the US is currently at greater susceptibility to another surge, but higher vaccination rates can help reduce its chances of occurring, and ensure those who are more likely to face adverse side effects from COVID can remain safe.
