Taliban Wants To Resume International Flights
After conquering Afghanistan and causing the withdrawal of US military troops from the Middle Eastern area, the Taliban are demanding international flights out of Kabul resume. The Taliban’s forieign ministry spokesman, Abdul Qahar Balkhi, claims the problems within Kabul National Airport have been resolved, and is completely open for either domestic or international flights. Balkhi said the lack of international flights has resulted in a decreasing workforce, causing many Afghans to be stranded abroad, and unable to work or study.
The Kabul Airport had previously been the site of a disorganized evacuation in which US military personnel and thousands of Afghan residents were airlifted from the country, out of extreme fear or anxiety. During this mission, US forces damaged military and commercial planes, along with the airports’ radar system.
Many nations are reluctant to reopen travel and flights, as they don’t find safety in the ruling methods of the Taliban. The Taliban has made claims stating they will “Cut off hands” because it’s “necessary for security” or even use execution as a form of criminal punishment.
Additionally, it’s been hard for local citizens to even trust their new officials. A month ago, Taliban leaders promised amnesty to those who supported the previous method of government and rule, yet these exact same people have been hunted and killed. Educational opportunities for women, moreover, have been extremely limited, as they are only allowed to attend gender-segregated institutions. Citizens are now subject to weekly home searches by military fighters, while struggling through day-to-day activities.
