California Child Molester Sentenced to Two Years In Juvenile Facility

A judge ruled that a 26-year-old transgender woman who sexually abused her child at the age of 17 would be sentenced to two years in  juvenile training instead of an adult prison. The case of Hannah Tabus, who admitted to sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in the bathroom of a Denny's restaurant in Palmdale in 2014, shocked Los Angeles County. George Gascon refused to request the  juvenile defendant to be transferred to an adult court. Gascon argues that the boy's brain is not fully developed and that the appropriate environment for rehabilitating those who have committed crimes during their minors is a juvenile care facility. 

Tubbs committed  sexual assault in 2014, but until January 2021 when Gascón took office, she was not arrested and not charged with the crime. Meanwhile, she was  arrested  in Idaho and Washington for battery, drug possession, probation violations, and convicted of deadly weapons assault  in Kern County, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's officials. According to court documents, she was  arrested on suspicion of sexual assault, but was not charged with the suspect. 

In November, Tubbs admitted to sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl. Police officials said the assault stopped only when someone else entered the bathroom. However, the prosecutor never filed a petition to refer her case to an adult court. There, he could face a long sentence that would have been imprisoned in  prison or adult prison. After being sentenced to 2 years, a lawyer at the Los Angeles County Parole Office, which manages the juvenile training school, requested Valera to execute the sentence in a county prison where Tabus was detained by an adult criminal. Tubbs did not appear in the court hearing. Her lawyer, Maceo Lewis, has asked Valera to expel the television crew, radio journalists, and photographers from court. The judge denied his request.
