Youngkin Beats McAuliffe in Virginia Governor’s Race
Republican businessman Glenn Youngkin defeated the former governor, Terry McAuliffe, in the Virginia Governor's election on Tuesday. Virginia is unique in that it holds state elections just one year after the presidential election. The only other governor's election that took place on Tuesday were in New Jersey, where incumbent Democrat Phil Murphy was surprisingly close to Republican Jack Ciattarelli.
Other elections across the country included two races, the US House of Representatives in Ohio and another US House of Representatives in Florida. There were also mayoral competitions in major cities such as New York, Boston, Atlanta and Minneapolis.
In most of these races, Democrats and Republicans sought clues on how to tackle the 2022 elections when control of Congress and many major state governments was decided. Whichever side comes out successful in the 2022 elections will have control over crucial decisions that affect the entirety of America, for good or bad.
