Back to Back School Shootings in Texas

Timothy George Simpkins is in custody after a shooting at Timberview High School in Arlington, Texas on Wednesday, October 6, 2021. Two people have presumably been shot. A 15 year old boy has undergone surgery and is in critical condition. Another teenage girl suffered a minor injury and has been released. A pregnant woman on campus was injured from a fall, but was treated on campus and is said to be in good condition. A 25 year old man is also said to be in good condition.

Simpkins allegedly drew a .45 caliber handgun after getting into a fight. He fled and later turned himself in. He was arrested and is currently in jail with a $75,000 bond. The Mansfield Independent School District has begun student counseling.

Additionally, another school shooting in Houston injured YES Prep Southwest Secondary’s Principal, Eric Espinoza, at approximately 11:45 on October 1, 2021. Grazed by a bullet from behind, the principal was shot by a 25-year-old ex-student who surrendered to the police shortly after. Police have not released the shooter's name nor motive.

Thankfully, no students were shot. Espinoza was taken to the hospital and is expected to be released on Friday. Students exited the school with their hands up to signal they were unarmed and reunited with their families. Many reports admire the students for their calmness and the excellent work by administration.
